Consideration of visa options for parents of residents/citizens in New Zealand
With 2021 New Resident visa releasing the enormous pressure on many individuals and businesses, what has been neglected is the significant contribution from those parents of New Zealand citizens/residents to hard working families. Visa status uncertainty for parents in New Zealand is detrimental to the wellbeing of the affected families and their work situation. Many full time working families rely on help from the older generation to raise young children.
It is evident that many individuals who are unable to unite with family during COVID Pandemic are suffering from tremendous mental health pressure. Unable to spend time with parents, missing opportunity to experience grandchildren's growth and emotional bond, increased pressure on work/life balance from lack of help from parents. Fortunately, there are immigrant families that still have parents around with temporary visas in New Zealand. While sympathizing with many un-united families, we urge Immigration New Zealand to consider resuming parent resident visa or other visa options for those parents in New Zealand to stay until the world returns to the status of normalcy.
