Kraft Foods: Remove Sodium Nitrite and Nitrate a toxic poison from Lunchables!
While looking over the ingredients in the Pepperoni Pizza Lunchable I was about to buy my children I realized they contained Sodium Nitrite. Sodium Nitrite is a chemical used to preserve, color and flavor meat it is also a toxic poison. Studies have shown the dangers of sodium nitrite for years. Ingesting sodium nitrite forms nitrosamines which are chemicals known to promote the grown of cancerous cells and contribute to colon, pancreatic and other cancers.
There are other dangers regarding sodium nitrite, inhalation causes respiratory distress, skin contact can cause irritation and it is readily absorbable through skin, ingestion can cause irritation of the esophagus, vomiting, convulsions and coma. If that wasn't enough a dose of just 1g is considered lethal.
The USDA tried to ban the use of nitrates and nitrites back in the 70's but was met with such hostility from the meat industry the USDA backed off. If the USDA acknowledges sodium nitrate and nitrite as a toxic and harmful chemical then why is Kraft Foods Group still using them to preserve the meats they are intentionally marketing toward children?
Just look at these entries from Wikipedia and you will see for yourself it is an unacceptable risk to add these unnecessary chemicals to our food escpecially food targeted toward our children.
We should demand better from food manufacturers and manufacturers should meet our demands for cleaner healthier foods.
Kraft put an end to this now and remove sodium nitrate and nitrite an unnecessary and toxic chemical from Lunchables and be a responsible leader in childrens food!
