As many people take action across so-called Canada to demand a ceasefire, a call has gone out from the folks behind @PalSolidaritySitIn to mobilize community leaders.
Community leaders often hold influence with Members of Parliament, while also being accountable to their community. As a result, they make powerful allies when organizing for justice.
Some examples of community leaders include:
Leaders of faith communities (ex. priests, pastors, imams, or rabbis)
Leaders within educational institutions (ex. principals, teachers, or professors at local elementary schools, high schools, colleges, or universities)
Leaders within labour organizations (ex. union reps, spokespersons in trade federations or workers rights centres)
Leaders of community organizations (ex. food banks, tenant unions, community clinics, charities, NGOs)
Leaders of arts and cultural institutions (ex. local artists and musicians, members of arts collectives, directors of galleries, museums, or music venues)
Leaders in business (ex. heads of business interest groups, economic or policy analysts, CEOs, investors)
Other leaders with prominence (ex. city councillors or other politicians, doctors, lawyers)
