To the New Government of West Bengal, the Enquiry Committee, and Event Organizers:

 

On December 13, 2025, Kolkata’s iconic Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan was meant to witness history. Instead, thousands of passionate, paying football fans experienced severe mismanagement, lack of access, and financial distress during the Lionel Messi G.O.A.T India Tour.

We, the football-loving citizens of India, are no longer asking politely. We are demanding accountability, financial restitution, and the restoration of Kolkata’s global football reputation.

 

🚨 THE FAILURE: WHAT WENT WRONG
While students and middle-class fans paid between ₹4,000 to ₹20,000, many were unable to access what they rightfully paid for. We demand accountability regarding the following concerns:

 

🎫 Misuse of VVIP Access: Serious concerns have been raised regarding the distribution by Ministers of West Bengal and use of VVIP/VIP passes by the families of previous ministry ministers and families of high ranking police officers. Reports suggest that excessive privileged access may have contributed to overcrowding and disruption, affecting genuine ticket holders.

 

🚧 Breakdown of Crowd Management: The police and event management systems failed to ensure smooth entry, safety, and fair access for ticket holders. Many fans faced confusion, restricted entry, and distressing conditions.

💸 Unresolved Refund Crisis: A significant amount of public money remains unrefunded. Ticket buyers are still awaiting clarity and timelines regarding refunds, leading to immense frustration and a complete loss of trust.

 

⚖️ OUR DEMANDS: ACCOUNTABILITY & RESTORATION

1️⃣ IMMEDIATE REFUNDS FOR ALL AFFECTED TICKET HOLDERS All verified ticket holders must receive full refunds without delay. The process should be automatic, transparent, and time-bound.

 

2️⃣ TRANSPARENT INVESTIGATION A clear and public report must be released detailing:

The exact number of VIP/VVIP passes issued.
The entry and crowd management protocols that were in place.
The specific roles and responsibilities of the authorities and organizers.

 

3️⃣ ACCOUNTABILITY OF ALL RESPONSIBLE PARTIES Appropriate action must be taken against individuals and authorities responsible for the mismanagement—ensuring such catastrophic failures are never repeated.

 

4️⃣ RESTORING TRUST IN INDIAN FOOTBALL EVENTS We request Satadru Dutta and all stakeholders to take responsibility for rebuilding trust. If feasible in the future, efforts should be made to organize a properly managed, transparent, and fan-first messi event that reflects Kolkata’s true football culture. Bring The GOAT again.

 

5️⃣ A FORMAL APOLOGY & GLOBAL REPUTATION RESTORATION Kolkata has long been considered the football capital of India. The events of that day do not reflect the spirit of its people. A formal acknowledgment of the issues and corrective measures is absolutely necessary to restore our city's credibility on the global stage.
