Give players the option of having the cutscenes in Dead or Alive 5 Last Round on PS4 and Xbox One run at 60 frames per second instead of the current forced 30
The Issue
Dead or Alive 5 Last Round is the final iteration of the DOA5 series. Dead or Alive 5 is originally a game designed for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems, but is in the process of being ported to superior hardware, namely PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
The games' cutscenes (story, character intros and end-of-fight win and lose pose animations, as well as the main menu screen) have always run at 30 frames per second (fps) since the original DOA5. This was always a strange decision since previous Dead or Alive games (2, 3, 4, Dimensions), which ran on equal or, in most cases, inferior hardware, always had these scenes running at 60fps. DOA5 itself was a step back in this regard from its predecessors, but now the game is being ported to more technically-capable systems, there is no longer any reasonable excuse for this.
DOA5 and DOA5 Ultimate's options menus give the player the ability to tailor the graphical effects (dirt, sweat/water, hit effects and degree of breast motion) to their own personal tastes. Last Round should also give the player the option to choose between 30 and 60fps for its cutscenes. This would satisfy both those who (respectfully, in my opinion, erroneously) believe 30fps to be superior for videogame cutscenes due to it being closer to the movie standard of 24fps, and those who believe a switch from a 60fps fighting game one moment to a 30fps cutscene the next is incredibly jarring and destroys the player's sense of immersion in the world.
With little more than a month to go until release, my requests through social media channels and email seem to have fallen on deaf ears, as all the new trailers for the game currently in the process of being released show that the cutscenes still run at 30fps. This petition is my last desperate attempt to get Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo to listen to reason and their fans and ensure that their game is as visually appealing as it both can be, and DESERVES to be. I love this game and want Team Ninja to put their full effort into it.
It is likely too late in the development process at this stage for this feature to be added before release (February 17th), but I sincerely hope that it is something which can be added in by means of a post-release patch.
Thanks for reading and please sign this petition if you believe Dead or Alive 5 Last Round players should be given the freedom of choice in this regard.
