Stop the dog park - ask Knox City Council to move dog park for health & safety reasons
The issue
Knox City Council is proposing a dog park in Emerson Place Reserve, Rowville (within the red circle above). The area of the park proposed is currently used by many children to play casual games of footy, soccer and cricket with friends and family, and family gatherings around the playground, leaving them with no viable alternative.
Health risk
The street of Braeburn Parade adjacent to the park already has an issue with dog excrement being left by a number of dog owners. The addition of this dog park will only make this situation worse, despite the legal obligation on dog owners. The health risk to children who play in this area will increase exponentially.
Safety risk to Road Users
Knox City Council also proposes a car park (small blue area above) on Braeburn Parade immediately opposite the loading dock entrance to Wellington Village shopping centre. Braeburn Parade is already a narrow street with a record of multiple accidents in this very location.
Alternative
We suggest the dog park be included within the parkland of Liberty Reserve, Rowville which has two sizable areas as options for dog parks (yellow areas above), and an existing car park (larger blue area above) which will drastically reduce the costs for the council, and to us as rate payers.
We, the undersigned, call on the Knox City Council to reject the proposed dog park within Emerson Place Reserve, Rowville, and locate it in the parkland within Liberty Reserve, Rowville, only a 5 minute walk away.
