Kitty Cafe UK - Welfare of cats

The Issue

After being to the kitty cafe in Nottingham I believe that all 3 Kitty cafes (Nottingham, Leeds and Birmingham) should all have a change of policy. No children under the age of 13 and those children above must be monitored to reduce the stress upon the cats in care. Rules should be strictly followed which were not when I attended and staff did nothing to implement this/remove people who fed/disturbed and mistreated the cats. These rules should not be tampered with and followed strictly. I also feel like the amount of children wandering and pestering cats whilst their parents weren’t supervising was quite difficult to deal with, even someone sat at their own table would have a random child trying to pet a cat across them.
there is no way that all the cats feel comfortable in this environment, especially finding out from staff that some have experience with abuse and have now been placed in a loud environment with children where they may experience more emotional and physical trauma. I find it surprising that most cats aren’t for adoption and most have been in care under this corporation for 6 years + despite their branding as rescue and rehabilitation. I looked and only 1 cat out of 23 is up for adoption which also after looking for a while it doesn’t seem like it’s common that you can even adopt the cats from their branches. I’ve seen a lot of people who like me, believe that this is a for-profit organisation who benefit off of the cats. I paid an £8 entry fee per person for a cafe that doesn’t seem to prioritise cat welfare in any way.

I hope from this petition that they will have to reinforce new rules…such as -

  • no children under 13 to enter
  • strict supervision over cats and customers the whole time
  • make sure no cats are fed human food/customers aren’t feeding
  • Create a customer capacity per cafe that is safe for the cats.

  • If a rescue centre - why are hardly any cats up for adoption, and why have some been there for 8 years +?

my main goal for this petition is for people to raise awareness of the confusion many experience surrounding this chain of ‘rescue kitty cafes’ when seemingly customers can’t rescue them and even see them because of the excessive amount of children that seem to stress out the cats. The conditions do not seem fair and respectful for 20+ animals at a time.

By adding your signature, Kitty Cafe Uk will hopefully have to reassess their treatment of their cats, prioritise their health and safety and reduce the child to cat contact within day to day basis. I believe a company like this could function well if rules are cared for, cats can be rescued and customers are made sure to adhere to said rules that they sign for upon entry.
