Kirtland’s Warbler: Michigan State Bird Change

Kirtland’s Warbler: Michigan State Bird Change
The Issue
As the American Robin is an iconic bird and commonly seen around the Great Lakes State of Michigan, we believe that the Kirtlands Warbler is a better candidate to represent our state.
The Kirtlands Warbler (Setophaga kirtlandii) is a recently endangered bird of northern Michigan that with proper management was recently declared threatened (which is better than endangered) and who’s population is rising. It lives and nests primarily in young Jack Pine (Pinus banksiana). The bird has a beautiful song, distinguished colors and proud posture. Our proposition to re-designate would better represent the endangered species in our state, promoting our emphasis on their conservation, and conservation of all other species that call Michigan home.
Not to mention, Wisconsin and Connecticut call the Robin their state bird. Just saying.
