What may we agree upon?

Hi friends, 

In life there are so many things we may disagree upon. All the issues that are mentioned or not mentioned in politics: universal health care, free higher education, how to deal with the pandemic, endless wars or not, funding or defunding the police, traditional history or whole history, capitalism or socialism, and what should we do, if anything about the impending climate catastrophe (or is it a hoax?) 

Is it possible, in fact, that most of us may agree upon anything? Perhaps we will only follow, en masse, artificial laws that are backed by threats: imprisonments, fines, ostracism, etc., but this is not agreement. It is subjection. 

I would be hard pressed to think of five things that, universally, humans might agree upon, a minor percentage for exceptions taken into account. Among these, I would hope that one thing we can all agree upon (except perpetrators) is that:

CHILDREN SHOULD NOT BE SUBJECT TO SEXUAL ABUSE in our institutions of school and church by teachers, staff, or spiritual teachers, or staff. 

Everyone reading this has signed the petition and this indicated agreement already. But what of those who have not? May we reach even one of them, a family member, a friend, and chat with them about this topic, access to the petition in hand on our phones or laptops? In sharing the petition and our thoughts about it, even with trusted friends who may or may not agree with us but most likely agree that children should not be sexually abused in schools, we have a common bridge in that nearly universal belief. 

I encourage each of you to cross that bridge with a spouse, a family member, a good friend, a neighbor, someone you have coffee with or walk with etc. We will talk about many subjects with such people, knowing that they will not think less of us for our opinion and on this topic, there is a common bridge already. Signing a petition is only a gesture signifying that opinion is shared.
