We've been fighting the Battle of keeping our chickens SAFE for 2 years now in Kirkland NY. We received our first letter in 2018 asking us to stop selling chicks and eggs which we did immediately. We were then put through a long drawn-out vigorous process. That was totally unnecessary mainly because there were no laws pertaining to keeping chickens in my rural residential area. We were asked to go in front of the planning board the zoning board and the appeals board. of course we were shot down at all of these boards mainly because I live near a town employee who's made it more difficult to get due process. We've also attended quite a few town meetings pertaining to the issue. We also requested relief through the Oneida county farmland protection program trying to get our 3 acres registered as farmland. But again in this small area within our government everyone is friends so they sided with the town.Mind you I'm a certified member of the national poultry improvement program through the New York State department of agriculture For the last 3 years. I followed all the proper guidelines I did everything my town requested of me and now they are trying to pass a law on all residential and rural residents that they are also Not allowed to have chickens. I Received a threatening letter recently from my codes officer telling me all of my chickens have to be off of my property by October 30th 2020. Please sign this petition. Do not let them get away with this. We should be allowed to keep chickens in our own backyards without interference from government or neighbors.
