According to a study published by the American Academy of Pediatrics, starting school earlier could help teenagers get the necessary amount of sleep and perform better academically. Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have highlighted that early school times correlate with improved attention and mood.

We the students, parents, and staff/faculty here at KIPP Texas Public Schools are eager to make a change within our school district. Our current bell schedules cause the Highschool students to start at 8:35am and leave at 4:35pm, while simultaneously having the elementary and Middle School starting at 7:25 and leaving at 3:25. We as a whole are urging for an adjustment of these schedules in order for all grade levels Pre-K through 12 to begin and end at the same times (7:25am to 3:25pm) as we used to. The current schedule poses a burden to many families across the state, families with students in different buildings must commute for their elementary kids to get to school on time as their highschool student too is there listless in the morning, this listless time frame would be ample and valuable learning time. Dismissal is where the time discrepancy becomes an inevitable burden. Between waiting an hour for your highschooler to come out or either commuting from the Bus stop back to the school, it is evident change needs to happen and must happen immediately.
