The Issue

Kingston currently has over 38,000 people without a family doctor. That number is expected to grow to 53,000 by 2026. Residents of Kingston are in desperate need and the City of Kingston has an opportunity to be visionaries and innovative in order to attract and retain sufficient family doctors to adequately serve our community going forward.

Too many Kingston residents are despairing in endless queues in hopes of being lucky enough to find a doctor for themselves and their loved ones. Our hospital emergency rooms are overflowing with people with no alternatives to obtain medical care.

The City of Kingston’s recent purchase of 309 Queen Mary Road, a centrally located accessible medical building with plenty of parking should be converted into a one-stop medical facility with family doctor’s offices and much needed diagnostic clinics, attracting new family doctors and serving the acute needs of the greater community.

We, the undersigned citizens and residents of the Kingston region, call upon Kingston's City Council to immediately address the lack of family physicians in Kingston by purchasing and transforming the entire property at 309 Queen Mary Road into a family medicine and diagnostic centre housing multi-physician family practices with accompanying diagnostic services, able to serve the many thousands of Kingston area residents needing a family doctor.
