SAVE ROYAL KINGSTON - Save the Guildhall

The Issue

The grade 2 listed Guildhall was built in 1935 on the banks of the Hogsmill river, with the grade 1 listed Coronation Stone beside it.

It has survived the Great Depression, World War 2 and the Luftwaffe, but now is threatening by rapacious regeneration plans by the council. They intend to sell the building to become a “boutique hotel”, against the wishes of residents.

The Guildhall is not just a place for council meetings, but also:

  • A Civic Centre
  • A grade 2 listed building
  • The Old Court House - a venue for weddings & ceremonial services
  • Citizenship ceremonies
  • Kingston History Centre
  • Site of the Coronation stone
  • Council services
  • Community meetings
  • Registration of births marriages & deaths
  • Borough & Council’s archives
  • Historic Art work
  • Kingston Chamber of Commerce
  • Anstee Bridge

Where will all these things go?

We have nominated the guildhall to become an Asset of community value. (ACV) but need your signatures to show the council that Kingston residents and visitors are against their plans to sell off the Guildhall.
