Victoria Turner started this petition to King's College London and

During the first lockdown of 2020 King’s implemented the Safety Net Policy so that no student was disadvantaged by the pandemic.

Now we face an even graver situation, students are paying rent for houses they may not be living in (after King’s assured us of on-campus teaching, which many of us have not received), working more hours in high risk sectors such as supermarkets or food distribution, and facing the mental toll of family members potentially catching Covid-19.

We are asking King’s to account for these difficulties by implementing a policy so that our grades are not disadvantaged. It is unfair to expect students to be at peak performance when we are facing such huge stress and uncertainty.

Our proposal is that our safety net from the last academic year is brought through to this year. we believe It would be unfair to use the average of term one as it was not reflective of the ‘normal’ university experience.

Students are still paying full tuition fees, without the full experience. We face exceptional circumstances and cannot be expected to achieve as well as we would have had the pandemic diminished. Therefore it is unjust to apply normal grade calculations to our work. This unsettling and disruptive time must be accounted for.
