Community meeting TONIGHT and King County Council meeting TOMORROW

Christopher Blado
Seattle, WA, United States

Mar 9, 2020 —

Hi everyone,

There is a community meeting tonight in White Center to discuss King County’s effort to place COVID-19 quarantine facilities in our neighborhood.  The purpose of the meeting is to continue building community support to overturn King County’s reckless and short-sighted decision.  We are specifically organizing in advance of tomorrow’s King County Council meeting, the last Council meeting before patients are expected at the facility.

Here are the details for tonight’s community meeting:

Date:  Tonight, 3/9/20

Time: 6:30PM

Address:  Bethaday Community Learning Space, 605 SW 108th St. White Center, WA 98146

Please come!  We welcome the input of other White Center residents.  If you haven’t been involved yet, that’s ok!  We’re learning together how best to stand up to King County.

Even if you can’t make it tonight, please join us at the King County Council meeting tomorrow:

Date:  3/10/20

Time:  1PM

Location:

King County Courthouse

516 Third Avenue

Room 1001

Seattle, WA 98104

This is our best opportunity to share our opposition with the decision-makers who approved the White Center coronavirus facility.  If you can only make it to one event in the coming weeks, this is the one.  Please attend!

Additionally, there are two points to be made:

After many community discussions, it is clear that White Center residents are unified in our opposition to this facility.  We do not want this facility in our neighborhood.  We say NO to King County’s attempt to bring COVID-19 to White Center!

Thus far, King County has done ZERO outreach to residents who would be living near the proposed coronavirus facility site.  This negligence is only worsened by the fact that the neighborhood is home to thousands of residents for whom English is not a first language.  By placing residents in harm’s way and failing to even make the barest attempt at informing them of the new danger, King County has demonstrated a heartless disregard for the most vulnerable people in our community.  As King County continues to respond to the COVID-19 crisis, it needs to prioritize the needs of vulnerable populations, by meaningfully including them in the decision-making process.

Thanks everyone!  See you tonight and tomorrow!

Chris

P.S.  Keep sharing the petition, and share with friends and family who live elsewhere!  We need to show King County Council that the whole world is watching!
