Why this petition matters

Started by Vladimir Titarenko

It's the second week of war in Ukraine. Anybody who's got the TV or access to one has seen news coverages and knows that Ukrainian people keep finding against the overpowering aggressor and NATO refused to close the air space. This leads to further destruction of Ukrainian cities and devastation among civilians. Thousands of women and children have already left the country and Europe has been gracious enough to accept them for a short period of time. However, many of them do not have a home anymore to return to and at this time it is unclear when and how these homes will be rebuilt. I urge Governor Reynolds and Iowa senators and representatives to open up borders of Iowa to accept Ukrainian refugees. Most of them are hard-working people accustomed to make their own living. Most of them will not rely on social support any longer than it is absolutely necessary. And all of them are deserving of help and support generous people of Iowa can offer. My family came to Iowa during the economic crisis of 1990s and Iowa became our new home. Since then, I had a chance to travel across the United States, meet different people, see the beauty of this land, but I have not found a different place I would have liked to call home. Thus I'm petitioning to let other people, who's gone through so much, to call Iowa their home as well.
