Judge To Hear Motion to Vacate Ronald Kliner's Conviction Based on Withheld Evidence

Finally some good news! On Friday, June 30, 2017, in Rolling Meadows Circuit Court, Cook County Judge James N. Karahalios will be hearing two motions filed by Ronald Kliner - one to vacate his conviction based on a clear "Brady" violation of evidence withheld by the prosecution, and a motion to appoint a special prosecutor to review his case. The only "evidence" against Ron for the 1988 murder of of Dana Rinaldi was the word of the victim's husband - who cut a deal to avoid the death penalty - and the claims by a few individuals whose testimony was based less on the facts than their grudges against Ronald. The "Brady" motion concerns one of those witness, John F. Apel, who alleged that on a number of occasions Ronald admitted to murdering Dana Rinaldi, which Ronald strongly denies ever doing. The fact that Apel, at the time a Chicago police officer, initially denied any wrongdoing by Ronald, and waited five years before before making this claim, was one of the reasons he became the subject of a Chicago Police Department Internal Affairs Investigation. The prosecution never gave Ronald's defense lawyer documents relating to this investigation nor other requested documents, which has resulted in the hearing on "Brady" violations. Ronald Kliner's second motion concerns bias in the Cook County State's Attorney's Conviction Integrity Unit - also connected to John F. Apel - and has petitioned the court for a special prosecutor. After more than 25 years behind bars for a crime he didn't commit, Ronald Kliner may finally get some justice. Here's a personal note from Ronald Kliner: On Wednesday, May 17, 2017 , after five years of trying to get them from the Chicago Police Department, I received the Complaint Register/CR file(s)/Numbers for John F. Apel, Sr., the Chicago Police officer and uncle of mine who lied at my trial. It's clear why no one wanted me to have them, for had the States Attorneys given this info, as was their duty to disclose via Brady v. Maryland and our repeated pre-trial "Brady" motions for them, Apel would have never been put on the stand, and I'd have never been wrongly convicted! On Feburary 14, 1996, Apel "testi-lied" at my trial. On Feburary 15, 1996 CPD, SIS (Special InvestigatIons Section), OPS, IAD opened an investigation on Apel and on February 16, 1996 (all during my trial) opened a "CR" on him. On February 20, 1996 they interviewed Assistant State’s Attorney (ASA) Anderson about it and on February 27, 1996 interviewed ASA(s) of my trial Spector and Andreou quoting in their report "Kliner trial still ongoing" Had they disclosed this, there would have been a mistrial! I was wrongfully found guilty on February 28, 1996! Please help me, we have all the documents on Apel and more.
