In Australia, 77% of pet owners believe their work productivity is affected by pet illness, and 55% would lie to stay home to care for their pets.

Similar concerns likely exist in Canada, where unregulated breeding practices contribute to pet health issues that disrupt owners' lives and work.

While pet food, animal welfare, the import and export of pets, veterinary services, and pet insurance are all subject to regulation, the primary source of Canadian family companions —breeders — remains largely unregulated.

It's time for Canadian elected officials to recognize and prioritize their significance.

Spread the word.
