Keys Gate Residents Looking for Transparency
The Issue
We, the undersigned homeowners of Keys Gate, are deeply concerned about the lack of transparency, accountability, and representation within our Homeowners Association (HOA). Our community deserves a fair and transparent HOA that represents the interests of all homeowners, rather than a select few chosen by the developer.
We have been living at our Keys Gate property in Homestead, FL since January 2022. We, Dr. Vanessa Herrera and Jose F. Herrera, are the owners of this property. During our orientation, we were informed about regular meetings and voting sessions; however, this has drastically changed over the past year.
We initially attended one meeting where homeowners were not permitted to speak until we collectively complained, after which we were grudgingly allowed a voice. However, we were still silenced during the budget meeting. Disturbingly, there has not been a single meeting in the past year.
Despite multiple requests, our HOA has refused to provide a detailed explanation of the services covered by our fees. Over 100 concerned citizens within our community share our frustrations regarding the secrecy and lack of transparency from the Keys Gate HOA. We have also been denied the opportunity to run for board positions, with the recent board member selection on May 31st limited to a select few chosen.
The entire process has been extremely frustrating and opaque. Many residents have submitted public request forms seeking information, only to be told that they must travel to Brickell for such requests, which is unreasonable since we all reside in Homestead.
Our goal is to establish a new HOA that prioritizes transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness, allowing all homeowners to have a say in community affairs. We demand clear explanations regarding the allocation of our funds and insist that meetings be scheduled at convenient times for working residents. While the initial meetings may be lengthy, we believe they can be spaced out to ensure order and transparency.
A significant amount of money is being managed without adequate oversight, leaving numerous questions unanswered. We firmly believe that transparency is the key to resolving these issues and ensuring the fair management of our community.
We urge the Miami-Dade County District Attorney to investigate these concerns and assist us in establishing a fair and transparent HOA that represents the interests of all homeowners.
We, the undersigned, stand together in seeking a transparent, accountable, and inclusive HOA for the betterment of our community.
