Here in Cecil County we have been plagued with black flies (gnats). The University of Maryland has conducted studies and found the Octoraro creek to be a major source and breeding ground for these flies. We can’t enjoy our yards, wait for children at the bus stop, talk to neighbors, or do yard work without being swarmed. Our children can’t play outside without dealing with these pests. They fly in our eyes and ears, get inhaled into our lungs, and even bite and cause allergic reactions to some.

Pennsylvania has had a program for years where they can spray for these pests with no ill effects. Washington County, MD now has started a program as well. We desperately need this program started in Cecil County. Local officials have been contacted but it seems as though our voices are not being heard.
