The issue

Shame on the Victorian Government for putting profits ahead of conservation and species survival. AGAIN it's the animals who continue to suffer. To secure votes for the 2014 Election, the Victorian Labor Government made a deal with the Unions to protect logging, despite an earlier commitment to create a 'Great Forest' national park. Environment Minister Lisa Neville earlier this year said she believed the park would be created this term, with a commitment to protect logging industry jobs. Conservationists and scientists – including Sir David Attenborough – have long argued that the park is crucial to protect the Lead beater possum, which is believed to be perilously close to extinction. Yet, the same minister has now back flipped and said no commitment can be made to end logging in the national park. Why minister Neville are you continuing to sign off on the killing of native animals. First koalas, then kangaroos and now you are signing a death sentence for an ENTIRE species. The Leadbetter Possum is dangerously close to EXTINCTION. The Animal Justice Party VICTORIA calls for the VICTORIAN GOVERNMENT to PRIORITISE the Leadbetter Possum's survival and protect it's habitiat by ending logging in the Great Forrest National Park.
