Stop Parking at Top of Gold Street, Kettering to Avoid Further Accidents or Loss of Life
The Issue
On August 13th, 2019, an innocent pedestrian, fetching a sandwich for his lunch, was involved in an horrific traffic accident outside The Mortgage Store at the top of Gold Street resulting in the loss his leg at the scene. Were it not for the swift actions of a trained bystander, the man would surely have lost his life. This was the most shocking incident that you could ever imagine and would normally be seen on a battlefield, rather than in a Kettering's pedestrianised town centre precinct.
Cars and pedestrians do not mix. There are far too many cars, vans and lorries that use the top of Gold Street to park, drop off and make deliveries. As a result, those using this area are risking life and limb as vehicles routinely reverse and make u-turns. It is not a question of IF this will happen again, it is a question of WHEN. Perhaps next time it could be you, a family member or heaven forbid, your children. Someone may even be killed.
The only way to ensure the safety of pedestrians is to eliminate all traffic by re-siting the bollards at the top of Gold Street and make the Town Centre a safer place for everyone.
Over the last few years we have witnessed a number of near-misses and we advised Kettering Borough Council that it was only a matter of time before something like this happened, Clearly the severity of the incident has stunned us all and we feel that we need to come together as a community to make this happen.
I cannot achieve this without your help. I need everyone in the borough of Kettering to get behind this. By taking a few minutes to sign and share this petition you could be saving a life!
