KHSD Build Pools in Schools!

In 2013, The Bakersfield Californian reported that there were 1000 swimmers in the KHSD - only football and track had more participants - and there weren't enough pools to accommodate them. Fast forward three years and there is another article in the The Bakersfield Californian about pool shortage and the adverse effect it has on Kern County's high school swimmers. It's been three years and the district has yet to make any attempt to remedy this problem.
The excuse that pools are expensive to build and maintain is not valid. Thirty seven schools in the Central Section have successfully managed to build and maintain on campus pools. The Kern High School District is the largest high school district in the state and there is not one single pool on any campus. The current system of bussing kids to share overcrowded pools is dangerous and creates financial strains and liabilities as well. The benefits for the community and students are immense and the dangers and inconveniences that current swimmers are experiencing are inexcusable. It is beyond time that the KHSD recognize the importance of swim programs and move forward with building pools.
Please urge the KHSD to add building pools to the facilities planning.
