The Issue
Lake Ming is for Everyone! Sign the petition to urge Supervisor Maggard to re-support the Lake Ming Bike Path Extension Project!
The Lake Ming Bike Path Extension Project is now being rejected by the Kern County Board of Supervisors, which will restrict public accessibility to one of the County’s largest parks and recreation facilities.
The Lake Ming Bike Path Extension Project would enhance and add new biking and walking facilities to connect with Hart Park and the Kern River Parkway. It includes approximately 1 mile of new multiuse path for cyclists, joggers, and pedestrians, and new bike lanes complete a fully accessible loop around Lake Ming Road to the trails along the Kern River, and parking that would encourage more comfortable and family-friendly use of this great regional park.
The route was designed to go around the rear of the Kern River Golf Course, so as to not disturb the golf club, and it was heard at the Kern County Parks Commission on August 21, 2019. The project received much community support and no opposition.
Updating and expanding bike trails and lanes around Lake Ming is an important part of revitalization efforts for the Hart Park area, is included in the Kern River Trails Specific Plan, and is a key part of the Lake to Lake vision for the Kern River Parkway. This Extension Project will allow residents of all ages and abilities to enjoy what Kern County parks has to offer on bike, skating, scooting, or rolling.
