Keep DI Hub Dining open on the weekend

The Issue

In recent years, Kent State University has greatly limited its dining options available to students using meal swipes. In the 2019-2020 academic year, students enjoyed a wide variety of dining locations such as Eastway, Prentice Cafe, Student Center Market, Munchies Market, Rosies, and more. Following that year, Kent State removed Prentice Cafe, Student Center Market, and Munchies Market. Eastway is central to the main residential area of campus, including Tri-towers, Twin-towers, and of course, Eastway. For the students living in the Quad or New Front areas, Prentice, Munchies, and the Student Center Market were only a few minutes away from their dorms. Kent has taken away these options.

Luckily, they replaced these three dining locations with one: the DI Hub. Offering a range of food from many different cultures, the DI hub is a favorite among students. Anyone who has been there knows about the round grill where the chefs prepare omelets or pasta, the comfort station, and most notably, the dessert station, with special gelato made by the dessert chefs. There is no denying that the DI Hub is great and placed in a location making it accessible by residents of the Quad and New Front. The issue is the availability. This, the only location one can use meal swipes with near the Quad, is not open on the weekends.

Now, it's not the end of the world or anything having to walk to Eastway or Rosies on the weekends, but in the cold, windy winter, it sure would be nice to have a shorter walk to get food. Not only that, but student employees could gain more hours with 2 extra days of operation. The simple solution is to have this crucial island of a dining hall open for those residents living in central campus.
