Free weekend travel for kids with a bus pass
The Issue
The KCC young persons travel pass no longer allows children to travel at weekends for free, the day times have also been reduced. Those children who have to travel into town to school on public busses also make their friends there. The new notices in arriva busses state they are unable to travel at weekends for free, this means they cannot see their friends for social meetings without additional fare being paid. The cost of the pass is rising at an alarming rate - up again this year. At the same time, the travel time they can use it for is reducing rapidly. There is no value for our money and we have been given no choice about when they can travel. Notices in busses are the only information. We bought these passes at a cost of £270 per child in good faith that they could use them at weekends too and 1 month in they have changed the usage times. This must be challenged!
