Right To Walk Across The Stage

Right To Walk Across The Stage
The Issue
As many of you know, the Kenosha Unified School District has recently canceled the graduation ceremonies for the class of 2020. This decision was made in response to the recent corona-virus pandemic.
The High School Seniors of 2020 are being stripped of one of the most memorable, stepping stone moments of their lives.
Many seniors, including myself, worked hard throughout the years in an effort to walk across the stage and make our friends and family proud. I believe that these seniors and their families should have a voice in the decisions made about moments that we have been dreaming of for our whole lives. It is disappointing to have the excitement of graduation, that has been built up over the years by our family, friends, teachers, and principals, be taken. Taken away without transparency about the options explored, the number of hours that were spent looking for solutions and reasons that outdoor options are not a possibility. We have already received our caps and gowns and have been told the date that we were supposed to graduate on. Having graduation suddenly canceled, and their initial decision reversed, it feels as if they gave up on finding a safe solution to hold an in-person graduation to celebrate the hard work of their 2020 seniors.
By singing this petition, myself and many other seniors hope that this may get the Kenosha Unified School District’s attention in hopes to come up with a safe plan to hold in-person graduations for the class of 2020. Every student should have the opportunity to celebrate their hard-work.
