Kenneth Hahn Skyline Preservation Project

Kenneth Hahn Skyline Preservation Project
The Issue
Partners of the Parklands is interested in preserving and protecting Kenneth Hahn Park. The Park is a rare natural habitat in the middle of a very crowded city and it’s important that we conserve its natural beauty.
As members of the community and park patrons we are reaching out to you to ask for help. Within the last month another new large communications tower was installed along the La Brea ridge line in Kenneth Hahn Park. This is in addition to the ever crowding amount of large towers already along this ridge line.
There are so many negative impacts these towers have on the parks and our neighborhoods. Among the many concerns include:
1) Dangers to our birds and wildlife
2) Health risks to park patrons and children in the playground near these towers.
3) The negative impact these towers have on the natural untouched beauty of the park (a rare respite in crowded metropolitan city).
4) The negative impact the towers have on the aesthetics of the surrounding community.
5) The amount of unused towers that litter the skyline while new ones are being erected. For example, the decades old water tower that sits rusting at the skyline of the park while it remains completely empty.
The natural land preservation of Kenneth Hahn Park should be the number one concern for all of us, and put before any financial profit that is made for housing these towers. Cell towers, radio towers, etc obviously do not add any benefit to the preservation of the park. These gigantic manmade structures are counteractive to what the park is intended to be and they dwarf the height of even the tallest trees in the park by hundreds of feet.
Most surprisingly, these towers are a large construction undertaking and yet the process by which they are approved and installed in the park is not known. Park officials seem to have no voice in this and do not even know about the towers until they are being installed. Furthermore, Kenneth Hahn does not even seem to benefit financially from the towers. The private companies and the unknown individuals approving the towers to stand in the park do not care at all about the negative impacts they have in this natural habitat or to the future of our community.
We would like to ask for your support to regulate these towers that exist and any future towers installed in Kenneth Hahn Park. The Park is a rare natural habitat in the middle of a very crowded city, it’s important that we conserve its natural beauty. It’s important for the future of the park and also for our community.
