Mrs. Downs, conductor of five of Sachem East’s orchestras as well as head of SEHS’s Tri M Music Honor Society, and Mr. Macchio, conductor of many of Sachem East’s bands, have been informed that they will be transferred to a new school for the upcoming year. They have played a large role in her students lives far beyond music. They truly cares about ALL of their students, whether they’ve been in their class for four years or for one. It’s rare to have teachers who form such a strong connection with each student. In addition, Mrs. Downs and Mr. Macchio are such incredible teachers and conductors who always believe in and push their students to their full ability. The entire music department would be devastated to lose them, and would not be the same. Mrs. Downs’s and Mr. Macchio’s passion, dedication, and generosity could never be replaced.
