Governor Greg Abbott, per his recommendation, is allowing social workers to decline clients if they are LGBTQ+ or disabled. 

Social workers can work with individuals or within large communities or organizations and assist with a variety of ailments from addiction treatment to chronic illness and child support services.

Social workers are not political playthings. They are there to perform a wide range of services, whether to schools, mental health organizations, or hospitals. They are not a private business that can turn people away. 

This will directly affect the people of Texas and the people there who truly need help. These groups are already discriminated and oppressed. The governor has created a direct barrier, making it harder to gain access to help. If this is not revoked, many adults, young adults, and children (who deserve services) of these targeted groups are at risk of their problems being worsened or unresolved. 

Social workers are meant to enhance social functioning, self-reliance, and overall well-being. It cannot be done at its full capacity with discrimination and unwarranted declination.
