WHAT IS BHT?

BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) is a preservative banned in many countries. Research shows BHT is related to increased cancer and abnormal growth and tissue inflamation in animals. In Europe, it is classified as a possible human carcinogenic (meaning there is some evidence it could cause cancer in humans). BHT also acts as an endocrine (hormone) disruptor and can damage your lungs, liver, thyroid and kidneys.

WHAT DO WE WANT:

The Center for Science in the Public Interest states " BHT is unnessary or is easily replaced by safe substitutes." Kelloggs prides itself on marketing health cereals to consumers and their children. Children may be particularly susceptible to the effects of BHT. Cereals marketed as healthy should not contain preservatives that are known to make us sick. We urge Kelloggs to remove BHT from its cereals and switch to safer alternatives for preservatives.
