We hope you are well.  We just wanted to let you know about a development with Kellogg's that you may not be aware of. Many North American employees have been protesting about job cuts and offshoring jobs, as well as a proposed two-tier system which gives newer workers less pay and benefits. The strike started in October and Kellogg's are now threatening to sack and replace 1400 staff (some of whom have worked there for generations). 

Kellogg’s reported a profit of $1.25bn in 2020. Cereal sales grew more than 8% in 2020 due to increased demand during the pandemic. The company approved a stock buyback program in February 2020 through December 2022 of $1.5bn. The CEO of Kellogg’s, Steven Cahillane, received around $11.6m in total compensation in 2020.

From a palm oil perspective, we have had an update from Kellogg's below, although still no plans to meet again:

“The allegations noted in the Global Witness report are very concerning. To be clear, East New Britain Group has never been a direct supplier to Kellogg. When we first learned of these grievances in July, we immediately contacted three of our suppliers who indirectly purchased from ENB and all have now stopped purchasing from ENB mills. If we receive a valid complaint, we take immediate action to verify and then follow our publicly available Grievance Procedure, if warranted.

“Kellogg is committed to working with our suppliers to support the production of sustainable palm oil from sources that are environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable. Anything less is not acceptable.”
