The Kelley School of Business prides itself on many things but two stand out: Me, Inc./GCS and the Core. The core has provided an opportunity for all students to get foundational knowledge on the many aspects of business, from accounting to marketing and operations. The faculty does a good job of incorporating cases and relevant experiential learning opportunities to create an engaging learning environment across cohorts. Most students rely on this foundation to propel their MBA journey.

The core, however, does not address many of the foundational issues that business leaders and businesses are faced with today, one being racial inequality in America. With the recent civil unrest due to the many deaths of Black citizens at the hands of police officers, businesses have rushed to put out statements in support, while also doing internal work to address the systematic racism and oppressive policies that hinder the progress of Black people, ultimately hindering America.

That is why the time is now for the MBA program, both full-time and Kelley Direct, at the Kelley School of Business to incorporate the HBS case titled "African American Inequality in the United States" to give future business leaders a starting point to understand the challenges this country faces. Students, both current and past, have asked the administration to increase the diversity of cases and hire diverse faculty (there is only one black faculty member and 0 black administrators or GCS coaches) but the response has been inadequate--"there aren't enough cases with Black leads, we have a small staff, there's a shortage of black faculty...". Enough is enough.

By signing this petition, you are demanding the following:

1. Incorporate a case that identifies black leaders and/or business that include a mandatory reading of the HBS note, “African American Inequality in the United States" in to the core starting in Fall 2020

2. Hire a qualified and experienced instructor to teach this case to all cohorts exclusively during no less than two core sessions

3. Hire a qualified and experienced person of color to lead yearly diversity and inclusion training for faculty and staff that deals with racism, implicit bias, and racial inequality

This is the bare minimum that Kelley can do as a top 25 MBA program, the #1 online MBA program, and founder of The Consortium in the year of 2020. Kelley should play its part in this current movement by following its own slogan "Go from Moment to Momentum" starting now.
