The Issue

Our society prides itself on fairness and equality, yet we find ourselves in a situation where the average British citizen is subject to one set of rules, while another is set for those who may invoke Islam as protection. It feels unfair to the rest of the nation that blasphemy laws favouring Islam are starting to take root, especially since certain teachings are incompatible with our national values.

The issue at hand is Keir Starmer's efforts to define Islamophobia in legal terms. Before establishing any such definition, it is imperative that he fully understands the foundational texts that are often cited in discussions around Islamophobia. Specifically, Keir Starmer should read and review, on national television, sections of the Quran that talk about Aisha’s marriage - her age at the time of marriage and age at consummation, perspectives on Christians, Jews and unbelievers and how they should be treated, black slavery, women’s intellect and the value of their testimony as compare with a man’s, and perspectives on sex slavery. This public undertaking is necessary to ensure that any legal definition of Islamophobia is comprehensive and informed by a true understanding of the teachings of Islam.

Such an approach is not about singling out a religious community, but rather ensuring policy decisions are made with a informed perspective that includes all views. By providing transparency and accountability through public review, we promote dialogue and bridge understanding within our multi-cultural society.

This petition isn't just about religion, it's about ensuring that the laws we create and the definitions we endorse are fair and considerate of all beliefs in our diverse nation. Let's hold our leaders accountable for their decisions. Let's make sure they are backed by understanding and thorough examination.

Join us in calling on Keir Starmer to take this important step. Sign the petition to require him to read and consider these crucial texts before defining Islamophobia in legal terms.
