Keep Yogi on Campus!

The Issue

Yogi is a big malamute husky who was found by my girlfriend and I tied up with a bag of dog food on a logging road near Raymond, Washington last December. Since then myself, Jacob, and my girlfriend, Katie, have been the sole owners/caregivers of this dog and he has become a part of our small family. While we went home for Christmas for two weeks, we gave our school apartment key to two of my college teammates who lived within 15 minutes to come and take care of him while he stayed in the apartment due to the fact that no families could take another dog over the holidays. Unfortunately, giving my keys and letting my dog stay in the apartment while I wasn't there was against the school's ESA rules. Due to this, even though this decision was clearly to make sure Yogi was completely taken care of, the school has told me to 'remove' him from campus for 'campus safety' and has given us only 72 hours (now around 24) to find a new home for him until we leave. Due to the rushed nature of this decision by an interim dean of students Yogi will be homeless within a day if nothing is done about it, unfortunately with my girlfriend and I living on our own across the country and being financially independent yogi has absolutely no place to go in the surrounding area. Admin have been contacted repeatedly and the appeal process is currently going on, however, the 72-hour deadline seems to be too little to have the administration respond, specifically over a weekend. Because of the uniqueness of this situation, I have taken it upon myself to try and create a change at the institutional level as well as the current ESA policies through your participation! Thank you
