Great Yarmouth Borough Council have issued a lease to Sentinel Leisure Trust for the site known as the Marina Centre, Great Yarmouth with a view to eliminating the annual shortfall of income to costs of running the facility. The site houses a number of small not-for-profit organisations that provide valuable resources to the locality. Retroskate Artistic Club is a thriving, growing and nationally recognised Roller skating club based at Retroskate, within the Marina Centre, and provides facilities for all ages to learn roller skating. This gives young people a place to go and socialise with their friends whilst being in a safe, secure environment. Retroskate Artistic Club have achieved a huge haul of both national and international medals including 16 British Championship Titles and the first European free skating medal for many years. Sentinel Leisure Trust are proposing to demolish Retroskate Artistic Clubs venue in favour of a Car Park as part of developing the Marina as a “Gym & Swim” proposition. This would also impact the Indoor Bowls club provides a much needed resource for older people to keep fit and socialise.

This proposal will see the loss of this highly valuable and much needed club providing essential leisure activities for the youngsters of Great Yarmouth borough. This would be in favour of an additional Gym facility to a borough which is already well served by such facilities & increasing car park spaces in an area which simply does not need it.

This petition calls upon the council to support the continuation of the Retroskate Artistic Club and reject proposals to demolish it’s venue.  Please sign our petition and fight to save this local and much needed resource.
