Keep White Plains, NY Woodcrest Ave. Beautiful and Wild

The Issue

We are concerned about the application to build a house on 126 Woodcrest Ave. It is on part of the last swath of woods on the street. Woodcrest Ave. (Woodcrest Heights) is an iconic road comprised of several blocks in White Plains, NY (Westchester County). There are beautiful old growth trees and several species of animals and birds who live here. The proposed home is on a deep incline in this environmentally sensitive area. The deep vibrations from the heavy vehicles (at least 150 as was reported at the 6/21 White Plains Planning Board meeting), blasting, jack hammering, trenching activities etc. could be a serious threat to nearby homes and the people who live in them. We have landslide, flooding and air pollution concerns as well. Many school buses travel up and down Woodcrest Ave. The congestion caused by the construction and heavy vehicles present a problem and possible danger for the buses, emergency vehicles and regular neighborhood activity. We urge the City of White Plains to purchase this lot. It will guarantee the preservation of the land, character, and safety of Woodcrest Ave. Building on this property will have a negative impact on the existing neighbors, houses and environment. Please join us in opposing construction on the lot. Sign the petition, speak out at the public planning board hearings (White Plains City Hall Common Council Chambers 255 Main Street), e-mail the planning board secretary with your concerns (emcclain@WhitePlainsNY.gov) or the mayor's office (kcostable@WhitePlainsNY.gov), and contact White Plains council members. Together we can protect and preserve our beautiful neighborhood and city.

Thank you!
