Keep WCU Club Ultimate Mixed!

The Issue

Club Ultimate at WCU, known as the "Western Front," has been a mixed ultimate team since 2012. The Front has historically always been in good standing with Club Sports and has consistently met its volunteer, fundraising, and competition requirements.

Now, the team is faced with an unwanted scenario: compete as a men’s sanctioned team, remove our team name, logo, and identity... This also by proxy means that womens ultimate at WCU will die as a consequence… Or, stay mixed and not be entitled to a practice field while receiving no funding and also no longer being recognized as a club sport.

Club Sports has said that our loyal, dedicated, and amazing female-matching players are “holding the team back” and that the tournaments, games, and competitions are merely “social events.” Western Front was described as functionally a “social club” despite all the competitions we play at, and the tournaments we host for the Western NC community to help grow the sport of Ultimate in our region…

Western Front is one of the only mixed-team sports on campus, and this may soon change without your support. The club simply wants to be entitled to field space so they can remain a mixed club and continue growing the sport of Ultimate in Western NC.

Our end goal is to eventually have a sanctioned men and women team. But we are not there yet… With your help, we can continue competing as a mixed team and grow our number of Female-matching players to eventually become two fronts!

Sign this petition to bring this to the attention of WCU Club Sports and the University. Help keep Western Front mixed!

The future of female-matching players at WCU is at stake.
