"I can't support the removal of Indians in the Waterloo Central Schools because it has never been used or interpreted in a derogatory manner. As mentioned by others who signed this petition, our area has been historically intertwined with the culture and history of the Native American tribes. If someone can show us proof that any of the local tribes are offended by our being referred to as the Waterloo Indians, please provide it to the public. As an educator in our district for 39 years (includes 3 years of subbing after retirement), I can attest that the units of instruction about the history surrounding Native Americans was done in a dignified manner and the students were always respectful and engaged in the discussions. Let's focus on the far more critical issues in education. Forever Pride in our Tribe!
