Keep Versova’s Fire Station Reservation — Put Public Safety First
Keep Versova’s Fire Station Reservation — Put Public Safety First
The Issue
Versova is home to over 3.7 lakh people — families, children, senior citizens and thousands of residents living in rapidly growing high-rise developments.
Today, residents depend on fire stations in Irla and Goregaon, both far from parts of Versova. Heavy traffic can make an emergency response even slower.
Now, a proposal before the BMC seeks to remove the existing reservation for a fire station in the Versova-Madha layout and convert the land for residential use.
We are not against development. We are asking for something more fundamental: safety.
If a fire breaks out in a building, every minute matters.
A delayed fire tender isn't an inconvenience — it can mean the difference between rescue and tragedy.
We are asking the BMC and Maharashtra Government to:
Keep the existing fire-station reservation until an independent fire-safety assessment is completed.
Assess Versova's current and future population, traffic, high-rise development and emergency response requirements.
Publicly disclose the assessment and explain how adequate fire coverage will be ensured if the reservation is changed.
Ensure that no land reserved for essential emergency infrastructure is converted without a safe and credible alternative.
Because we don't want to ask after a fire:
“Could we have prevented this?”
We want Versova to grow.
We want our neighbourhood to develop.
But development cannot come at the cost of the safety of the people who live here.
Sign this petition and ask the authorities to keep Versova's fire-safety needs first.
Keep the fire station reservation. Keep Versova safe.
