The University of Derby wants to start charging students to use the buses, here is what it says on the website:

"From 1 August 2025*, the Unibus fares for staff and students will be as follows: Single journey: £2, Daily unlimited pass: £5, Multiple: every 10th trip is free via the Mango app, Termly pass: Term 1 £140, Term 2 £140, Term 3 £60, Annual pass: £300, Off-peak (if the ticket is issued before 8am or after 6pm between 1 October and 28 February): £1.40 per trip

How do I pay?You can pay as you go by cash, card or Mango app, or buy one of the available passes (see above). Passes will be available to purchase via the Mango app.

All our teaching sites and halls of residence are within 30 minutes’ walk of each other, and many are much closer. Active travel, such as walking or cycling, is often the quickest way to travel across our Derby campus, especially at peak travel times. It’s also the healthiest and most environmentally friendly option.

*The Unibus is free for current students and staff until 31 July 2025."

As students we are already contributing high amounts of money to the university in tuition fees and other expenses,

also as students many of us cannot afford these costs for travelling and while some maybe able to walk others such as disabled students may be unable to do this

lastly it does not address why the university has decided to start charging us so this seems an extremely unreasonable change to policy
