Keep TOPS K-8 Open: Protect School Choice and our DHH Program

The Issue

We are advocating to keep TOPS open!  The Option Program at Seward (TOPS) has been one of the most successful programs for the past 35 years, serving students from Kindergarten through 8th grade with a unique and inclusive curriculum. Seattle Public Schools (SPS) has recently proposed the closure of all option schools, including TOPS K-8. This decision threatens to dismantle a successful and diverse educational program that emphasizes mastery in core subjects, promotes social justice, and fosters a nurturing learning environment.

TOPS is the only public school in the district that offers a dedicated Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) program.  With tailored resources for elementary and middle school students, the specialized environment is crucial for the academic and social development of our DHH students, as it provides essential support and fosters an inclusive community where they can thrive. Closing TOPS would mean the loss of this vital program, depriving our students of the unique community and educational focus they need to succeed.

Whether you are a Seattle-native or a DHH supporter, please sign this petition to show your support of this important school.  We urge SPS to reconsider this proposal and keep TOPS open.
