Subject: Concerns Regarding Proposed Closure

I am writing to express serious concerns about the proposed closure of Thigpen Street to through traffic. While I understand the city may have reasons for considering this change, closing this key connector would have dangerous and unintended consequences for residents, especially when it comes to traffic safety.

Thigpen Street currently provides a safe and manageable route for local drivers to access nearby neighborhoods and essential services without needing to cross high-speed, high-traffic roads. If the closure goes forward, many residents—especially those in adjacent neighborhoods—would be forced to use Cottage Hill Road to reach their destinations.

Cottage Hill is a major thoroughfare with heavy, fast-moving traffic and limited safe crossing points. Redirecting local drivers and pedestrians to this busy road increases the risk of accidents, particularly for families with children, elderly residents, and anyone walking or biking in the area. Forcing more traffic onto Cottage Hill also adds congestion and makes it more difficult for emergency vehicles and school buses to navigate safely.

Rather than improving safety or traffic flow, closing Thigpen Street would create more danger and disruption. I strongly urge the city to reconsider this plan and instead look for alternative solutions that preserve neighborhood access while addressing any traffic concerns.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
