Keep the Willard Libby Park Duck Pond Fenced

Keep the Willard Libby Park Duck Pond Fenced
Why this petition matters
Last week we learned that the City of Sebastopol plans to remove the fence that surrounds the duck pond at Willard Libby Park without plans to replace it. Leaving the pond unfenced will be a drowning hazard, as well as expose young kids to the untested and possibly toxic water.
With a preschool close by and a toddler playground right next to the pond, we feel this is an accident waiting to happen. Children should be able to play freely and safely on the recently renovated play structure in this section of the park, and are the ones most at risk from the fence removal. Furthermore, the City of Sebastopol should not expose itself to a lawsuit arising from a tragic event at the pond.
Danger to animals is also a concern. The fence provides protection to the turtles, ducks, and other wildlife in the pond, and likewise protects dogs at the park from the pond's water which could cause illness.
By signing this petition, you are letting the Sebastopol City Council know that you believe keeping the duck pond fenced is imperative to keeping young children and animals safe. Thank you.
