I am currently enrolled in the Prosthetics and Orthotics apprenticeship degree at Derby University, and I cannot stress enough how pivotal this program is for our industry. Through a blend of rigorous academic training and hands-on practical experience, students like myself are equipped with the clinical knowledge and skills necessary to make a significant impact in the field. This unique approach to education ensures that we are not just theoretically prepared but also capable of implementing practical solutions that improve patient lives.

In the ever-evolving healthcare landscape, the demand for highly trained professionals in prosthetics and orthotics continues to grow. The unique structure of the apprenticeship degree at Derby University bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world application, creating competent and confident practitioners. The multidisciplinary learning environment fosters innovation and collaboration, essential attributes for addressing the complex needs of patients with mobility impairments.

Despite its clear advantages, there have been discussions about discontinuing this vital program. Removing such a critical educational pathway would not only impede the progress we've made but also deter future students who aspire to contribute to this essential healthcare sector. The potential loss of this program would be a significant setback, affecting not just current students, but the entire industry reliant on skilled professionals.

Statistics show an increasing need for prosthetic and orthotic solutions, with an aging population and rising instances of diabetes-related limb loss. By continuing the apprenticeship degree, we ensure a steady influx of qualified individuals ready to meet these challenges head-on.

We urge Derby University to reconsider the decision to close down this vital program. Keeping the apprenticeship degree running is an investment in the future of healthcare and the enhancement of lives.
