In the Philippines, countless families continue to suffer from poverty, leaving them unable to provide for their most basic needs. To address this urgent issue, the government established the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) to support the poorest households by providing financial assistance for health, nutrition, and education. The program was created as a vital lifeline to ensure that government aid reaches those who need it most.

  However, concerns have been raised regarding the unfair inclusion of certain families in the program. Some households that are financially stable and capable of providing for themselves still manage to become part of 4Ps through connections, favoritism, or manipulation of requirements. Meanwhile, many families who genuinely qualify are excluded and left to continue struggling in poverty without the assistance intended especially for them. This weakens the program’s true purpose and takes away the support that should go to the families who need it the most. 

  The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and local government units are urged to strengthen the process of choosing qualified families through stricter screening, regular validation, and transparent public listings. Ensuring fairness and accountability will allow the 4Ps to remain true to its purpose—uplifting the poorest Filipino families and giving them the chance for a better future.
