Keep the public in public transit in the Central Okanagan

Keep the public in public transit in the Central Okanagan
The Issue
We believe that public transit should be just that - public.
Public transit means that our tax money and transit revenue is spent on great transit service, rather than going overseas as profits for private companies. The Kelowna Regional Transit System is currently operated by Swedish company First Transit, which has signed a deal to sell its operations to French-based Transdev Group.
The current operating contract with TransDev expires March 31st 2026. After that, BC Transit will decide whether to continue with TransDev, extend the contract, or pass the contract to another private company - we want something different. We're asking for transit in the Okanagan to be managed by local decision makers. It would be more accountable, better funded, and keep the funds right here in our community. We don't need private companies, who only want higher profits, managing an essential public service. Our local transit network supports tourism, schools, shopping, and daily life in our region.
We envision a Central Okanagan Transit Authority to make decisions about our transit system - and we need your help to put our community first.
