The Issue

Open Letter from the North Stars Hockey Program community.

To the Hockey Association Leaders of Saint-Laurent, Outremont, Town of Mount Royal, Côte Saint-Luc, Montreal West and Hampstead,

We are writing as the community members of  the North Stars hockey program to express our deep concern regarding the decision by the Borough of Saint-Laurent to withdraw from the North Stars partnership.

The North Stars program has long been recognized as one of the strongest and most respected double-letter hockey programs in Quebec. For years, it has provided young athletes with the opportunity to develop their skills in a competitive environment while representing their communities with pride, sportsmanship, and dedication.

However, the North Stars are much more than a hockey team.

Over the years, this program has created a unique hockey family that extends beyond municipal boundaries. Players from Saint-Laurent, Outremont, Town of Mount Royal, Côte Saint-Luc, Montréal West and Hampstead have grown up together, formed lasting friendships, and learned invaluable life lessons through teamwork, commitment, perseverance, and respect. Parents have built strong relationships, volunteered countless hours, and created a supportive community centered around our children's development and well-being.

The success of the North Stars program is not measured solely by wins and championships. Its true success lies in the positive impact it has had on hundreds of young athletes and families across our communities.

The possibility of losing or significantly altering this program is deeply disappointing and concerning to many families. We believe that decisions affecting the future of our children and this longstanding community partnership deserve careful consideration and open dialogue among all stakeholders.

We respectfully ask the leadership of all participating communities to work collaboratively to explore every possible option to preserve the North Stars program and the opportunities it provides. We believe that maintaining a strong regional partnership serves the best interests of our young athletes, our families, and our communities.

The voices of the families and players who live this experience every season deserve to be heard.

We believe that keeping the North Stars united serves the best interests of our hockey community and, most importantly, our kids.

Every signature matters. If you wish to stand publicly with our hockey community, please consider leaving a comment with your name and connection to North Stars. Your voice may help make a difference.

Stand with us. Keep North Stars together.

Respectfully submitted,

The North Stars Community
