The Issue

The Soho Society, works to preserve the heritage of Soho, wants to maintain ties to Soho's industrial history, especially the film industry. In this spirit of preservation, we raise a request to the developers of 113-117 Wardour Street—retain the iconic Hammer House signage, a symbol of Soho's film heritage.

Hammer House has served as a landmark in Soho, a symbol of an era when film was the key media for news and entertainment. From its creation, Hammer House has been associated with the Hammer Film Productions, including its Gothic horror films that both terrified and charmed global audiences. The signage signifies an important chapter of the UK's cinema history.

With plans to redevelop the site due to be approved on 8 September, the call to save the Hammer House sign is urgent. Altering or removing the sign would mean deleting part of Soho's history.

We propose that the Hammer House signage is retained in the development plans for 113-117 Wardour Street. Maintained on the frontage, preservation will respect the history while allowing necessary modernisation of the building.

Supporting this petition isn't merely about safeguarding a sign; it's about protecting our shared history, celebrating our cinematic past, and ensuring our heritage remains intact for future generations.

Your signature is key in achieving this goal. Together, we can urge the developers to honour Soho's film legacy by preserving the Hammer House sign. Please sign this petition to show your support and keep this significant piece of our history alive.
