Keep the Emu Creek Waste Station open and fix the access road

Keep the Emu Creek Waste Station open and fix the access road
The Issue
Residents of Emu Creek and the surrounding areas have recently faced an unjust decision by the Toowoomba Regional Council. Our only waste station has been permanently closed under the accusation of misuse. The true story is that the bins were recently set on fire—whether through vandalism or arson remains unclear—but it certainly wasn't misuse. This unexpected closure has dealt a heavy blow to our community, forcing us to make a 50-kilometre round trip to the nearest waste station, adding considerable inconvenience and costs for local residents.
The Emu Creek Waste Station was a vital facility for our community. It not only provided a convenient and eco-friendly way to manage our waste, but also supported the local economy by reducing travel time and costs associated with waste disposal. The closure affects everyone—families, local businesses, and community services that now have to incur additional expenses to manage waste efficiently.
Furthermore, the access road from the New England Highway to our community also needs urgent repairs. The road is in deplorable condition and this exacerbates the challenge of traveling greater distances for waste disposal. Potholes and uneven surfaces pose serious safety risks, especially during the wet season. Immediate attention and action are required to make the road safer and more accessible for all who depend on it.
We urge the Toowoomba Regional Council to reconsider the decision to close the Emu Creek Waste Station and promptly invest in repairing the access road. By doing so, the council will not only address community needs but also ensure safety, foster local development, and maintain environmentally sustainable waste management practices.
Please sign this petition to show your support for reopening the Emu Creek Waste Station and the immediate repair of the access road. Together, we can make a difference and advocate for a decision that benefits our community and future generations.
